The World Flying Disc Federation opened the WFDF 2019 European Beach Ultimate Championships, in association with BULA (EBUC 2019), in Portimão, Portugal on Monday, May 6. The premier European event for Beach Ultimate, EBUC 2019 has more than 1,300 athletes from 22 countries competing in more than 400 games over six days.

“WFDF is very excited for this event and, with the development of Beach Ultimate over the past several years, EBUC 2019 will be the largest continental beach tournament in history,” said Karen Cabrera, WFDF’s Beach Ultimate Chair. “The size of the event is a testament to the interest and dedication of players, national member associations, and organizers in this discipline of Flying Disc.

“We look forward to a very successful event in Portugal, and WFDF is already looking forward to the WFDF Asian-Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championships being held in Shirahama, Japan from 13-16 June 2019, our next World Championship of Beach Ultimate in 2021, and our hopeful inclusion in the future ANOC-GAISF World Beach Games in 2021,” said Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President.

Players at EBUC2019 are competing in the Men’s, Women’s, Mixed, Master Men’s, Master Women’s, Master Mixed, and Grand Master divisions, with a Great Grand Master’s (over 50) to be hosted for the first time.

EBUC2019 is hosted by the Portuguese Flying Disc Association and the Tournament Organizing Committee is led by the Event Director, Sofia Campos Pereira, and the Local Event Manager Filipa Bringel Vargas.

“Having seen the growth and importance of the event, I feel fortunate that we have such a great team of organizers working on the event,” said Patrick van der Valk, BULA President. “After more than a year or meetings, calls, and thousands and thousands of messages, it is now all coming nicely together in Portimão. I couldn’t be more excited. This will be a great event!”

Livestreaming is a crucial part of any tournament these days, and the Ulti.tv team will be bringing their expertise and experience to Portimão to broadcast the showcase games on the arena field. The commentary team of Tom Styles, Hannah Pendlebury, and Benji Rees will be calling games all week.
